Question/Comment

I am making paper Hibiscus flowers and would like to know what I should use to color them different colors. Do I add coloring to the blender or do I paint them after they dry? Do I use food coloring or do die? Thank you in advance for your help.

Arnold's Answer

Hi Linda -- I'm not all that much of an expert on forming flowers, but I have seen some in gift shops and they are indeed impressive. My experience with dyes tells me it would be difficult to use then on the already-formed flowers. It would seem to me that paint would be much more capable of being controlled, easier to use, and less messy. I doubt whether the esthetics of paint and dye are all that much different. Any desire to color paper through use of colored pulp for forming it, would do better with dyes than with any paint, food dye, etc. Food dyes I have used have generally yielded disappointing results. Good luck. -Arnold Grummer
